Large Calcite Formation Found in N.M. Cave
Scientists have announced their discovery of a more than two mile-long rare calcite formation, dubbed Snowy River, starting from Fort Stanton Cave in southern New Mexico. It will not be open to the public and scientists are going to great lengths not to contaminate it. They hope to learn a lot from it, including from specialized bacteria which may have pharmaceutical applications.
